Dear WRSA Members,

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) has invited stakeholders to submit proposals for consideration at the 20th Conference of the Parties (CoP20) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). This crucial global meeting, set to take place in Uzbekistan from 24 November to 5 December 2025, will shape international regulations on wildlife trade, including species relevant to our industry.

As key stakeholders in South Africa’s wildlife sector, WRSA members have an important opportunity to provide input on proposed amendments to CITES Appendices I and II. These amendments may impact the management and trade of species such as rhino, lion, elephant, and other wildlife central to sustainable use and conservation efforts.

We encourage members to review and submit their proposals or supporting information to DFFE by 7 March 2025. Submissions can be made via:

📬 Post: The Director-General, Attention: Ms. Olga Kumalo, Private Bag X447, Pretoria, 0001

WRSA is working closely with SUCo-SA to ensure that the interests of South Africa’s wildlife sector are effectively represented on the international stage at CITES. Through this collaboration, we are advocating for science-based, sustainable use policies that support conservation, responsible trade, and the economic viability of our industry. By uniting our voices, we aim to influence key decisions that will shape the future of wildlife management and trade.

This is a critical opportunity to influence international policies affecting our industry. Please ensure your voice is heard by participating in this consultation.
