Thaba Tholo/Pymat

On the morning of 08 November 2023 the My Wildlife SA team consisting of Jacques as Driver and Susan as Assistant, eagerly awaited the call from Dr Louis Greeff to leave homebase and head towards Thaba Tholo and Pymat to load 2 very special animals.
The team arrived at Thaba Tholo where the Sable Cow would be loaded. We enjoyed a friendly cup of coffee before leaving for the loading spot. The team prepared “Bulwa” and waited…
At 09:44 we followed the Thaba Tholo team and waited for our turn as they loaded a Buffalo Bull first.
At 10:27 the Thaba Tholo team arrived with the Cow, Tag Blue 8.
By 10:45 measurements were taken, 34 2/8” with a T2T of 13 4/8”; she was scanned by Dr Greeff and loaded into the middle compartment of our trailer.
After the go-ahead was given the team left Thaba Tholo and drove towards Pymat where we were to load Mafinga. We arrived at the other property at 12:00, Dr Greeff prepared the dart and we went looking for Mafinga.
At 12:56; Mafinga was measured, 54 7/8” with a T2T of 29”; fitted with new caps and sleeves, loaded into the middle compartment and Jaqcues and Susan left to take on the long road towards Van Zylsrus.
Susan got in touch with Mr Du Toit via Whatsapp and kept him and everyone else involved up to date with their progress.
The team stopped for fuel and checked both the Bull and Cow, they were calm. We proceeded.
The last 100km had us on our toes! We were warned to be on the lookout for kudu and the road did not disappoint! We saw: Kudu, Porcupine, Steenbuck, Duikers, Springhare and lots of Mice!
We arrived at Mr Du Toit’s property at 23:55 where Gert and Susan, our hosts greeted us at the gate. We followed them to a designated quiet spot to unhook the trailer as it was decided that we would unload the next morning.
05:45…Good Morning Kalahari! We are on our way to offload these two incredible animals…Mafinga C43 and Blue 8…by 06:50 both Sables were trotting away in their new camp!
We followed our hosts back to the main house, (but not before we had some “fun” with the Buffalo herd that did not like us taking a short-cut through their camp!) where we expressed our thanks and gratitude for their hospitality, filled up Bullet’s tank, got some food in the awesome town of Van Zylsrus and took on the long black stripe towards homebase…Thabazimbi.
