Castle de Wildt would like to announce that they will be hosting a Wildlife Industry Indaba at Castle de Wildt on the 7th of July 2017. According to Bernard Groenewald, owner of Castle de Wildt “the time has arrived that the collective wildlife industry – including breeders, ranchers, outfitters and entrepreneurs come together in order to benchmark the industry’s business processes and performance metrics to blueprint industry bests and best practices.

Just recently, the following description was still printed in the media about the South African wildlife industry:

“The South African game industry has in recent years become one of the fastest growing sectors of the South African economy, and has proven itself to be as viable as any other segments in the agricultural industry. Many of the segments which deems to be pivotal to the many successes already achieved, has always been part of the South African culture, whether it be hunting, enjoying weekends on game ranches, or the vast amounts of biltong products being produced and consumed.
Today, when one combine the turnover of both business and the sales of wildlife, it is currently estimated to be a R20 Billion industry, bigger than the both the South African dairy and sugar industry.” (Wildboere.com)

Recently, however, the industry saw game prices plummeting at the speed of light…

Amidst a large amount of speculation and opinions shared on social media platforms, Castle de Wildt is of the opinion that there are a variety of factors that are causing the fluctuation in auction and game prices, which is making the industry nervous. With the Wildlife Indaba, we hope to encourage the industry to verbalize the facts and to formulate solutions for pressing issues facing us all.

We have pleasure in inviting all our game breeders, ranchers, outfitters, entrepreneurs and interested parties to attend the Wildlife Industry Indaba.
