Dear WRSA Members,
The South African National Biodiversity Institute ( SANBI) has once again embarked on a major skills development and job creation programme. The Groen Sebenza Phase II is a Jobs Fund Partnership Project funded by the National Treasury aimed at developing priority skills in the biodiversity sector to create sustainable job opportunities.
The Groen Sebenza Phase II is a funded bridging- into- work programme , based on an “ incubator model” giving 1 050 participating, un- or underemployed graduates workplace experience through a structured mentoring programme, together with skills development and training opportunities to further develop their competence and confidence in the management of environment/ biodiversity. The programme is scheduled for the next two years.
WRSA has applied and been granted, 21 interns under the Groen Sebenza Phase II programme. These interns will be paid a stipend directly from SANBI in accordance with their educational level and job requirements as per the job advert.
WRSA is now extending the opportunity to members who are looking for skilled graduates to perform their biodiversity or environmental mandate, to apply for the placement of a qualified intern or interns within their business on their ranch.
The Groen Sebenza Phase II / WRSA mentor- mentee agreement will include the following:
The intern will be an employee of SANBI, and will be paid a stipend directly from SANBI. All labour- related matters and requirements will be fulfilled by SANBI. There is no obligation on the mentor to absorb the intern into his or her business after the completion of the internship. Mentors must be contracted to the programme. There is no renumeration for the mentor, however, the mentor has the benefit of a paid, qualified intern for the duration of the internship. Training of the intern will be split between 70% accredited training and 30 % non- accredited training of practical working experience ( not academic). SANBI will provide the interns with laptops for the duration of the internship. Permanent office accommodation is not required but a functional workstation with wi- fi is necessary.
